Moving into Delmanor with Adrienne

Deciding to move into a retirement community is a big step. Some seniors look forward to this change with excitement and happiness, while for others, it can be a time of stress, unease, or even sadness. These are feelings that new resident Adrienne, knows all too well.

Below, she describes her first-hand experience with her recent move into Delmanor, the wave of emotions she felt, and how positive and transformative it has been for her.

Who is Adrienne?

Adrienne describes herself as an all-around person. At 84, she is still going strong, taking as many exercise classes as Delmanor offers. As a result, you can find her doing Zumba, acrofit, strength and resistance training, or chair yoga.

She also likes to meet people and socialize, cook, read, and listen to music.

How Did You Know it was Time for Retirement Living?

When Adrienne’s husband fell ill and was in the hospital, the couple decided it was time to move to retirement living. They had already toured Delmanor as well as other retirement communities, so they felt ready to make the decision.

Although Adrienne and her husband were going to move in together, he unfortunately passed away before that could happen. Ultimately, though, Adrienne decided to still move in by herself.

The condo that they had been living in was now too big for her, and she didn’t have many friends in the building. Her children wanted her to feel safe, and since they live out of town, they loved the idea of Delmanor.

Three months ago, she took the plunge and moved into Delmanor West Village, and she hasn’t looked back since.

Delmanor Made the Move Very Easy

Adrienne was under a lot of stress during the move, due to the recent passing of her husband. At the same time as she was grieving, she had to clear out her condo, sell it, and prepare to move into Delmanor. However, she found that other residents at Delmanor were more than willing to talk to her and help her through, as many of them had gone through the same thing.

Before she left her condo, Delmanor had two people who came into her home, assessed what furniture she could bring, and drew up a schematic on the computer so she could visualize her new home.

When it was time for her to actually move in, Delmanor did everything for her, setting up her home exactly how she wanted, without her having to do anything. She showed up, and everything from the dishes to the furniture was in place. As she says, “I didn’t have to lift a finger. Delmanor made it very easy.”

Adrienne’s Advice for Others Who Are Looking into Retirement Living

Adrienne acknowledges that deciding to move into a retirement community is a very personal choice. But she thinks that in order to make the best decision, everyone should visit as many retirement homes as they can. Write down the pros and the cons and compare them.

For Adrienne, the choice of Delmanor West Village came down to the people. Everyone, from the residents to the staff to the management, was welcoming and friendly. She knows that she can get whatever help she needs.

She also points out that living at Delmanor is like living in a hotel – the food is great, the amenities are wonderful, and the place is beautiful.
