Dining at Delmanor West Village: What Chef-Prepared Retirement Living Looks Like

Category:
Community:

High-quality dining is one of the defining features of retirement living at Delmanor Communities. For families evaluating retirement communities, questions about dining are often top of mind. At Delmanor Communities, dining is all about diversity, resident-led choices, and elevated quality.

In Delmanor West Village, Etobicoke, residents can enjoy everything from fish and chips, to coconut curry, to a beef tenderloin in the newly renovated pub or main dining room.

Below, we interview Sarah Wager, Red Seal Certified Regional Chef for Delmanor Communities, as she describes what the dining experience is like at Delmanor West Village.

What Does Dining Include?

Dining at Delmanor West Village includes:

  • A main restaurant, a pub, and a bookable private family dining room
  • An a la carte menu with 14 choices daily, rotating every five weeks
  • Spring-summer and fall-winter seasonal menus
  • A chef’s daily creation, chosen daily based on resident feedback and requests
  • Menus that are altered to accommodate, gluten-free, vegetarian, diabetic, or texture-modified restrictions

How Dining at Delmanor Communities Supports Independence and Choice

At Delmanor Communities, we believe that retirement should mean living well, not stepping back, and every aspect of our dining service is tailored around that belief.

The menus at Delmanor Communities are chef-prepared, but resident-led. They are not made in isolation but are crafted to take into account the culinary flair of the chef and the particular desires of each community.

During each meal, the chef walks the floor, speaking to residents and receiving their feedback. If a menu item isn’t working, or if residents in general don’t like it, it will be removed from the rotation. Round tables are held each month for residents to voice any complaints they may have about any aspect of the dining service.

If a resident can’t find anything they want to eat on the menu for a particular day, the culinary team will make them what they want, as long as the ingredients are in the kitchen.

If there is something that a resident really wants to see on a menu, it will be incorporated into the chef’s daily creation and it will appear in the rotation.

How Dining at Delmanor Communities Supports Socialization and Active Living

At Delmanor Communities we know that along with great food, being able to socialize is an important part of the overall dining experience. Family members are encouraged to join residents for meals either in the main restaurant, pub, or in the private dining room.

Every winter, there is a resident holiday part with different stations – such as seafood, beef, or dessert stations. In the summer, there is a friends and family summer event where residents and guests can enjoy different buffets spread out throughout the building and grounds. For example, Delmanor Communities has been known to hold a pizza or oyster buffet on the rooftop.

Each Delmanor community tailors their menus to the wants and desires of the residents who live in them. For Delmanor West Village, seniors request a lot of diversity and love utilizing the pub. As a result, many different types of traditional pub foods are offered such as handhelds items, stews, pot pies, and fish and chips. In the main dining room, residents can order a wide mix of items from power bowls or coconut curry, to spaghetti and meatballs or beef tenderloin with creamy mashed potatoes.

Residents at Delmanor West Village like having an open schedule for dinner, and so the dining room is open any time for them to come between 4:30 and 7pm. Room service is also available if that is preferred.

One thing that sets Delmanor West Village apart is the recently remodeled pub and main dining room. Their bright, vibrant colours bring warmth, vibrancy, and excitement to the dining experience.

Experience Dining at Delmanor West Village

The quality of a dining program is something that is better tasted than described. A menu on a page cannot convey the warmth of a dining room, the energy of the pub on a Monday evening, or what it means to have a chef who knows your name and remembers that you prefer your beef tenderloin medium rare.
