For Delmanor West Village resident, Victoria, life is good. From the moment she first stepped foot in the building and knew she was home, until now, 17 months later, Victoria has been exuberantly pleased with retirement life.

Her philosophy on life is “you get what you put into it,” and she certainly lives this each and every day.

“If There Is Something You Can Think to Do, Delmanor Has It”

When asked what she enjoys doing, Victoria responded immediately with “dance, dance, dance, and more dance.” She dances herself – taking ballroom classes and line dancing, both at Delmanor and at the Westway dance club – and she also teaches Delmanor’s belly dance class.

Despite it being her passion however, Victoria does far more than just dance. She also belongs to the Delmanor chorus, likes to read, takes part in regular exercise classes, and participates in Reiki.

Victoria raves about the archival historian who comes in each month to give a lecture on different cultures, such as the harem of Turkey, the Vikings, or Renaissance Italy. She is sure never to miss one, and even arrives early to make sure she has a good seat.

Not one to sit at home, Victoria is always open to going on one of the many excursions offered by Delmanor. The most recent one she participated in was apple picking at Chudleigh’s farm and she is looking forward to the next one – a trip to Pioneer Village.

Whenever something is available and piques her interest, Victoria tries it. She has explored the on-site beehives with the guidance of a professional beekeeper, taken part in Delmanor’s casino night, browses merchandise when vendors come in, and takes advantage of the swimming pool.

What Made Victoria and Her Husband Choose Retirement Living?

A few years back, Victoria had a stroke. Although she recovered, her and her husband realized that running their large house was becoming too hard. Additionally, they had lost the community of friends they had once had, and they no longer felt they fit in with the younger families that were moving into their area.

Originally, the couple had wanted to move into a condo, but when their real estate agent suggested retirement living, they gave it a shot. They were shown a few different retirement residences, but Victoria said as soon as she stepped in the front door at Delmanor West Village she knew she was home.

Now, 17 months later, Victoria and her husband love living here.  Aside from feeling incredibly safe, and always having something to do, they love the community that Delmanor provided.

Despite leaving their home of 40 years, Victoria says that the happiness and satisfaction of living at Delmanor far outweighs the sadness of leaving their family home.

The Best Parts of Living at Delmanor

Although Victoria couldn’t pick just one thing that she liked best, the food was definitely at the top of her list.

To her, the amount of choice in the menu, the nutritious options, and the availability of fresh and seasonal vegetables really stands out. She compares eating in the dining room to eating at a high-end restaurant with the service, presentation, and setting that is provided.

Victoria also loves how safe she feels and how attentive and caring the staff are. She knows that whenever she needs help she can get it and when her husband suffered a heart attack in the middle of the night, the Delmanor staff handled it immediately and made sure he was sent to the hospital right away.

Victoria raves about the level of service, even saying that Delmanor is like living at a high-end resort. She loves the underground parking and valet service that Delmanor offers. She also appreciates that she can have access to a chiropodist, salon, optometrist, or audiologist regularly right inside the building.

As Victoria’s story shows, embracing every opportunity can transform retirement into something truly extraordinary. She lives her belief that you get what you put in—and at Delmanor, she’s found community, purpose, and endless inspiration.
